Magdalene Butiru - Impressions
Magdalene was three months in Butiru and has helped in the orphanage work. Here is her report:
Mulenbe!
Elin daily greeting in Lugishu. Lugishu is one of 60 languages in Uganda, which is spoken here.
My name is Magdalena, I am 20 years old and had the good fortune to spend the last three months in this place. An impressive, influential and wonderful time.
Butiru, a village. where so many things and almost everything. compared to Germany, with one big difference is different. The natural, logical, more tropical, the people and the culture of many Africans.
on the nature and the outer Gegebenheitsn I could set my personal good: The food
, Poscho and Beans, Matoke, Sweet Potatoes and rice with different Greens or sometimes meat. Simple, even tasty, but filling, especially because here the food is a necessity that must be fulfilled.
to the electricity-free life, without a refrigerator, television or light, although Mwakas could afford the luxury of a solar panel for the light, I got used to so fast that I hardly say more, what we in Germany need the fridge.
A broom handle, although with a pleasant but it is also zusammengebundenem grass, finally, our 80 year old still Kukhu sweeps the compound almost daily around the house. Why use a shovel when the hands are doing good and you like the rest can sweep out the door?
Also washing dishes with a scrap of plastic bags and soap works. In manual clothes washing, I am not a professional but certainly a skillful beginners.
Similar to eating with the fingers, which also produces a very different attitude to life, because hardly anything is as emotionally intense as Matoke to mix with the sauce or rice and beans to balance the mouth.
hot Unfortunately I still every cloud and the onset of rainy season just very welcome, because the temperatures in the hot sun are still getting used to most.
I too heavy to wear myself out-skirts but who knows if this Einstellng on the village is not too liberal.
The toilets, holes with a pit belonged to everyday life faster than I had expected. After two weeks, the stench has caused no more dizziness and only after the encounter with a real toilet with toilet seat after three months I came back the European luxury in mind.
The culture and people are just as varied, but not half as easy as the external circumstances. Again, I can only talk about the countryside and the rural population, because that was my biggest so far contact. Here you can feel the pure energy of life that makes up the country and the people.
time is relative, here in Butiru it is almost at a standstill. On the red desert road romp about women and men, and even chickens, cows and goats wander the seemingly aimlessly. Boda Bodas wait in the shade of the mango tree to her service as a faster way to provide transportation and are wrapped in clouds of dust every now and then from racing by matatus. In the tiny rooms of shops selling everything from laundry detergent is stacked and stationery on drinks, bread and sweets, to pesticide and toilet paper, what counts as a luxury item by the way here. On the front porches sit pondering the men. play cards or watch the intimate activity.
This atmosphere is reflected in the work ethic again, "What today I will not get that I move it to tomorrow," and in dealing with visitors, because they are simply placed in the living room and on the coal stove and drawn the only chicken, in order to serve it with soda (Coke, Fanta) from the next village to his friend. Each is addressed with the friendly African Art and questioned about health news. There is much laughter, joking and even the oldest of the ladies to be torn down the "toughest" awards.
Some things in the Ugandan culture for me will be increasingly more difficult, such as circumcision, carried out in some "Tribes" 16-18 year old boys during a party to give them Männlichkelt, which ends in a kind of orgy. Also receiving gifts is different, often called gifts, but only in secret or open response to a controlled air show.
The biggest conflict to me but the local role of women prepared. A servant of the man who is seen as his property. It produces children as a by-product and has co-wives to surrender their marriage bed. Thank God that many of these practices are already under Christian influence, because this brings a different spirit.
Such is the spirit and energy generally positive, but how strongly positive after the solid facade of each individual is, is hard to see. In each of the stamp of fate left inner toughness.
Tell me, how can endure it, to dig in a muddy field after him, by a landslide buried family, as an orphan to be pushed by foreign relatives or strangers, his six to bury in measles deaths of children, due to the "Schoolfees" get no chance at an education, and thus future have or never have the feeling of love of parents
is against the discouragement fought together, and faith is in God power and new positive energy.
With our new project "Micro Finance " the widows and other women are using small loans to a business opportunity, life brings base, we try to provide assistance to
help themselves. Organizations, such as "Children's Foundation in Africa," BMZ or bingo, make it possible for schools to be built in the most remote villages, as the new primary school in Bumbo now for 300 students. And the Butiru Möglichkelt to get new staff houses, schools, reducing class size to only 40 schools from previously 80 to sometimes 100, and physics and chemistry test rooms.
you as a sponsor, you give orphans and poor children the chance of a future.
I was before never been so clear that it really matters to each and every donor and that of 30 € a month already lives are being changed, children have a home, hot meals and education. And what are already some candy worth, compared with the beam of a child.
very warm greetings, especially of Elizabeth and Erasmus!
